The short answer: a light-bearing holster has to be molded for your exact firearm and your exact light, together. A holster made for the gun alone won't fit once a light is mounted, and a holster made for a different light won't hold yours securely. Find your gun and light in the chart below, choose that combination in the Firearm Model step, and you're set. Every light-bearing holster we build is also pre-cut for a red dot optic.

Why carry a weapon light?

Most self-defense situations don't happen in perfect light. A weapon-mounted light lets you identify what's in front of you before you ever make a decision, while keeping both hands on your firearm. More concealed carriers run a light every year, and many compact pistols now carry one comfortably.

Why the light changes the holster

A Kydex holster is molded around the exact shape it holds. Mount a light and the shape changes completely: the holster now has to fit the light's body, its switches and how it sits on your rail. That's why:

  • You can't use a standard holster with a light. The firearm won't seat.
  • You can't swap lights freely. A TLR7 Sub and an Olight Baldr have different shapes, so each needs its own holster.
  • The light is part of your retention. On a light-bearing holster, the light helps the firearm seat with a positive click.

How to choose the right light-bearing holster

  1. Confirm your exact gun model and generation. For example, a Glock 19 Gen 5 and a Glock 17 Gen 4 need different holsters.
  2. Confirm your exact light model. A TLR7, TLR7A and TLR7X are close, but pick the one you actually run.
  3. Choose that combination in the Firearm Model step of our builder.
  4. Running a red dot? You're covered. Every Armor Of God holster is pre-cut for optics.
  5. Running a threaded barrel? Add the Threaded Barrel Clearance upgrade.

Carrying a light comfortably

A light adds length and weight at the front of your firearm. A few things make a big difference:

  • A stiff gun belt. The extra weight makes a real gun belt even more important. See Why Your Gun Belt Matters.
  • The ModWing Claw. It rotates the grip toward your body to offset the added length and reduce printing.
  • The right clip. The Monoblock and UltiClip give a secure hold with or without a belt. See How to Choose a Holster Clip.
  • Your usual carry position. Comfort is personal. Most people keep carrying a light-bearing pistol in the same position they already use without a light, whether that's appendix or strong side.

Keep your retention dialed in

After mounting a light, test retention with an unloaded firearm: it should seat with a clear click, stay in place when the holster is turned upside down, and draw smoothly. Check your retention screws every few weeks. Read How to Care for a Kydex Holster for adjusting retention and using blue Loctite.

Safety first

Always unload your firearm before mounting a light or fitting a holster, confirm the trigger guard is fully covered when holstered, and practice your draw with an unloaded firearm. Never use a weapon-mounted light as a general-purpose flashlight to search or point at people. Read our full Product Safety & Liability guidance.
